Two major projects are currently underway in Bowman that will have large impacts on traffic and property owners.

The larger of the two projects is the reconstruction of Eleventh Avenue, from Highway 12 and north to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad.

Work on the road began Monday and is slated to continue through July 29. Driveways will be ramped for access during the construction at the end of each workday since the road will be milled to a lower height.

Access to driveways along the street won’t be accessible between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Residents will temporarily be required to park on streets adjacent to Eleventh Avenue if access is needed during those hours.

Crews will attempt to reinstate access as quickly as possible but the city of Bowman asks that residents understand that unknown variables could delay the process.

The project will also include the installation of a storm drainage system, concrete curb and gutter, concrete driveway replacement to the right-of-way and street paving.

The drainage along the east side of the street has been a common problem since the city had the road refinished several years ago. Those issues would now be corrected.

Sections of the street will be closed for up to one week once the concrete is poured to ensure it cures.

The asphalt paving will also require temporary closures during the construction periods.

The project is likely to disturb ground up to 33 feet from either side of road’s center. The grass in that span, which is actually city property, would be repaired and replaced where necessary with NDDOT Class 1 Seed mixture and hydraulic mulch after construction is done.

Some mailboxes could also be temporarily relocated along the route.

Nelcon, Inc., of Kalispell, Mont., won the bidding process through the city was named as the general contractor for the project.

The second project is focused on Divide Street, from Second to Eighth Avenues within the city.

A water main will be replaced by the city on the west side of the street.

Asphalt will be removed and excavated during the project, with the addition of valves and fire hydrants.

The project is scheduled to end June 17. Crews are scheduled to work between 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Bowman City Commission President Lyn James said everyone along the project’s route have been contacted and informed of the possible disruptions.

“The road width will not change,” James told The Pioneer. “Any damage to lawns will be repaired by (the) contractor.”
That damage, according to James, would likely be minimal.

Water service interruptions are also likely and would typically last three to four hours.

If the water main is required to be shutdown through the night, the city will install a temporary service to homes and business in the affected area.

Drivers will be asked to find alternate routes during the construction phase when necessary.
